What is an Eddy Current Separator?
An eddy current separator is a device that uses a powerful magnetic field to separate non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum and copper, from other materials. Eddy Current Separator rotor spins at high speeds, an electric current is induced into conducting metals. The separator uses a high-speed rotating magnetic rotor inside a non-metallic drum. As mixed waste travels across the drum, non-ferrous metals (e.g., aluminum, copper) passing through the rapidly changing magnetic field induce eddy currents. These currents create a secondary magnetic field that repels the metal pieces, ejecting them from the main waste stream. Non-metallic materials continue along the normal trajectory due to gravity, achieving automatic separation.
